Lost line

An order line cancelled for stock, short-shipped or substituted, from the fulfilment export joined to the order. Valued at the line's price, per branch, item and account. Items that recur on the list are the stocking decision; accounts whose order frequency fell after a run of lost lines are the customer cost.

Substitutions count

Revenue kept, customer did not get what they asked for. Reported as their own class.

The frequency effect

Orders per week in the eight weeks after a lost-line run against the eight before. A halving is a customer moving business quietly.

How it is computed

Order lines cancelled for stock, short-shipped or substituted, from the order file joined to shipments, valued at the order price, by branch, item and account.

Example

A branch took orders worth $3.2 million and could not fill lines worth $128,000: 4 percent. Forty items account for half of it, and twelve accounts had more than five lost lines.

Where it goes wrong

Never seen, because a cancelled line produces no invoice and sales reports are built from invoices.
