Snowflake CoWork for business teams: fit, setup and cost

Already on Snowflake? Decide whether CoWork fits your team's questions, what makes answers dependable, how usage is billed and when files are enough.

The short answerSnowflake CoWork, formerly Snowflake Intelligence, is a conversational application for business users. It can fit a team whose Snowflake data, access and agreed business definitions are ready for its recurring questions; it also accepts uploaded files. CoWork is billed through token-based AI Credits and the services used, with SQL warehouse compute charged separately. For one desk working from exports, compare the time to a checked answer, who owns the definitions and the total ongoing cost.

Snowflake CoWork can be a sensible next step when your company already runs on Snowflake and your business questions have prepared data, agreed measures and an owner. For a finance or commercial desk, the buying test is whether it returns an answer you can reconcile and repeat next month, with a cost someone owns.

Snowflake's current product FAQ explicitly confirms the rename from Snowflake Intelligence to Snowflake CoWork. This guide covers both names and keeps pricing here rather than treating Intelligence as a separate product tariff. Product facts were checked on October 17, 2026; sources are below.

What your team would use

A business user asks a question in CoWork and receives an answer that can include tables, charts and evidence. Behind that interface, Cortex Agents select tools; Cortex Analyst can turn a structured-data question into a query guided by semantic views. Your team usually touches CoWork, while the people preparing governed data and tools own the layers behind it. See the short Agents, Analyst and CoWork comparison for that division of work.

The scope can include documents as well as tables. CoWork also supports direct spreadsheet uploads: the documentation lists XLSX, XLS and CSV, up to five files, each under 50 MB. Those files are stored in the user's personal stage, and complex processing can use the default warehouse. A fair evaluation includes this existing file route.

The product page marks some newer capabilities as previews or coming previews, while the documentation describes a wider set of features. Confirm the availability of any feature your pilot depends on in your own account. A renamed product is not evidence that every announced feature is enabled for your team.

What must exist before a recurring answer is dependable

For a recurring budget, revenue or income question, choose one named measure and one close period. Ask the business owner to approve its meaning, the data owner to confirm the source and freshness, and the administrator to confirm the intended users' access. For a structured-data agent, the preparation includes the semantic view and tools it will use. Snowflake's agent-building documentation explains that an agent without connected tools lacks access to the account's data.

Finance still decides whether actual cost includes accruals, whether budget means the original or revised version, and whether the result is by legal entity, cost center or program. The semantic views guide covers those business approvals. Automatic assistance with setup does not approve a metric on finance's behalf.

Use a small fixture before a broad demonstration. These illustrative USD rows use one period and one approved budget version:

Cost center Actual cost Budget Actual minus budget
Operations $120,000 $100,000 $20,000
Commercial support $30,000 $35,000 −$5,000
Total $150,000 $135,000 $15,000

The answer should report a $15,000 cost overrun, retain the favorable support line and let the reviewer find the inputs, period and budget version. The amounts and total above were computed and independently reconciled. Use the existing variance analysis method for the full calculation; this fixture tests whether the selected workflow uses the right definition.

How Snowflake CoWork is billed

Snowflake's AI pricing documentation says CoWork is billed in AI Credits based on token consumption, with no per-seat fees. The model selected and the underlying services invoked affect cost. Table 6(d) of the Service Consumption Table, effective October 15, 2026, lists model-specific input, output and cache token rates for CoWork and Cortex Agents.

Budget line What drives it What the budget owner should request
Agent/model usage Tokens, selected model, conversation length and repeated work Usage from a representative set of questions and follow-ups
Underlying services The tools and services the agent invokes An itemized estimate that accounts for every service without counting it twice
Warehouse compute Executing generated queries or other processing Measured compute for the pilot, including file processing where applicable
Preparation and upkeep Data readiness, metric approval, testing and changes A named owner and an effort allowance

As checked on October 17, Snowflake lists AI Credits at $2.00 with global routing and $2.20 with regional routing, before applicable contract discounts. Ask the administrator which routing meets your company's requirements. AI Credits and Platform Credits are different billing units; warehouse pricing and the legacy standalone Analyst API follow their own rates.

The 67 Platform Credits per 1,000 messages rate applies to the standalone Cortex Analyst API. It is not a flat price for a CoWork conversation. The existing Snowflake Cortex Analyst cost worksheet owns that API calculation. The official pages do not establish a fixed dollar cost per CoWork question: without a workload and configuration, that figure cannot be verified. Measure it in a pilot.

When a file-first workflow fits one desk

CoWork merits a pilot when the organization already supports the data, access and ownership needed for your use case. A finance team can use that existing investment without commissioning a second platform. Test the same question, source period and evidence requirements whichever route you choose.

Covirage starts with the exports or sheets the desk already has, without requiring a warehouse or data team. Its tools compute and check every figure, retain the agreed definitions and expose the supporting rows; the external AI model only explains the computed results. That scope suits an FP&A budget review, a commercial revenue question or a banking or insurance income analysis where one desk needs a repeatable answer from available files.

CoWork's upload support means the choice cannot rest on whether a tool accepts CSV. Compare the actual path from those files to a repeatable, reconciled result, the owner of that path and its ongoing cost. The Snowflake alternatives hub covers the wider selection decision.

Where it goes wrong

The company has Snowflake, but the desk's data is elsewhere. Confirm the relevant period and fields are available before judging the answer.

A citation substitutes for a definition check. A traceable result can still use a different budget version or revenue policy. Keep the approved definition alongside the result.

Every chat turn is budgeted at the Analyst API rate. CoWork's token and service costs depend on the work performed, including follow-ups and tools.

A file demonstration becomes an assumed recurring process. Test the next export and a changed definition before assigning an ongoing owner and budget.

Questions people ask

Is Snowflake Intelligence now Snowflake CoWork?

Yes. Snowflake's product FAQ explicitly says Snowflake Intelligence is now Snowflake CoWork. We checked it on October 17, 2026. The former product URL also redirects to CoWork.

Does Snowflake CoWork have a per-user subscription price?

Snowflake's AI pricing documentation says there are no per-seat fees. CoWork uses token-based AI Credits, with additive service costs and separate warehouse compute where used. Your contract, models, routing and workload determine the bill.

Can Snowflake CoWork analyze spreadsheets?

Yes. Current documentation lists XLSX, XLS and CSV uploads, with up to five files under 50 MB each. File upload support alone does not establish that a recurring finance metric uses your approved definition.

When should one desk consider Covirage?

When its recurring analysis starts with available exports or sheets and it wants a checked result without a data-team project. Covirage's tools compute and check every figure; the external AI model only explains the computed results.
