Alteryx and Databricks AI/BI are both good at what they are built for. Alteryx gives analysts a drag-and-drop canvas for data workflows; Databricks AI/BI adds dashboards and natural-language questions to data governed in Unity Catalog. Alteryx makes analytics automation software. Its core product, Alteryx Designer, is a Windows desktop application where analysts build repeatable data preparation, blending and analysis workflows by dragging tools onto a canvas instead of writing code. Alteryx One, introduced in May 2025, packages Designer with cloud capabilities, Auto Insights reporting, AI assistance and central licensing and governance.
AI/BI is the business intelligence layer built into the Databricks Data Intelligence Platform. It has two parts: Dashboards, a low-code tool for building and sharing interactive dashboards, and Genie, a conversational interface where business users ask questions in natural language. Both run directly on data governed in Unity Catalog.

Both assume a team that will build and maintain a model of the data before questions get answered. Some teams have a narrower need: one desk, one recurring question such as "what is driving my costs" or "where is my revenue coming from", and exports that already exist.
